Recent Events

• In 2008 the 24th Annual ‘Pentathlon del Boscaiolo’ (Pentathlon of the Woodsmen) was held in Nerito, a frazione (outlying area) of Crognaleto.   Three person teams competed in five events (cutting a tree trunk with a hatchet, felling a tree with a handsaw, etc) during the course of this national championship.

• Each year in May in the locality of Piano Vomano a celebration is held by the name ” Festa dell’Albero” (Feast of the Tree).  The celebration is held in honor of a large oak tree, known as “Quercia Mazzucche” which until recently was located in this area.  Unfortunately a few years ago it split into pieces because of its size and advanced age and had to be taken down completely.  In 2009 the celebration was marked by an event in which nine oak trees were planted in the area for every child born in the comune in the years 2008 and 2009.
